Dengue virus is a significant pathogen responsible for various infections, especially in healthcare environments, posing substantial treatment challenges. Effective antiviral and antimicrobial topical gels against Dengue are critical. Ion Gel ZCM-25®, an antimicrobial gel formulated with Zinc, Copper, Magnesium, and other elements in a redox ionic amine solution, has demonstrated efficacy in infection prevention and wound healing. This topical gel is designed to combat pathogens like the Dengue virus while supporting skin recovery.
This study aimed to evaluate the antiviral efficacy of Ion Gel ZCM-25® against the Dengue Virus Type 2 strain (ATCC VR-1584), following the guidelines established in the Mexican Standard NMX-BB-040-SCFI-1999 for germicidal product evaluation. The study focused on the gel's potential as a wound care solution and infection control agent.
A quantitative assay was performed using a specified inoculum concentration of Dengue Virus, which was applied to 100 g of Ion Gel ZCM-25®. The gel's antimicrobial efficacy was determined by calculating the percentage reduction in viral load, measured in Colony-Forming Units per milliliter (CFU/mL), at specified time intervals (10 minutes and 24 hours) post-application. This process highlights the gel's rapid antiviral and antimicrobial action for infection prevention and wound healing.
Ion Gel ZCM-25® demonstrated significant antiviral activity against Dengue Virus, reducing the viral load by 99.999% within 10 minutes. This substantial antimicrobial effect was sustained throughout the 24-hour study period, showing its long-lasting potential for wound care and infection prevention.
Ion Gel ZCM-25® exhibits potent antiviral and antimicrobial properties against the Dengue Virus Type 2 strain (ATCC VR-1584).
